Safety is fundamental to everything we do – ensuring everyone who works in our industry, does so safely
The energy industry has led the way in the evolution and continued improvement of safety processes and equipment. In fact, safety innovations and improvements developed by our industry have been adopted and are improving safety in other industries, from life saving equipment to safety practices and culture.
The transformation to increasingly remote and autonomous operations (and digitalization in general) will present opportunities to enhance safety in the future. Energy Research & Innovation (ERI), our members and collaborators, continue to explore ways of enabling the safe and sustainable development of our offshore resources.
Safety and Human Performance
Energy Research & Innovation (ERI) supports safe operations by collaborating with research, education and training institutions and private sector innovators to ensure our workforce and systems meet the challenges of our harsh marine environment. ERI has managed almost 40 health and safety projects over the past 20 years to improve the performance of survival suits and flight suits, develop better evacuation systems, understand and improve human performance in emergency response situations, and develop new training techniques and technologies to improve that performance. Memorial University and its Marine Institute, the National Research Council, Virtual Marine, are all internationally-recognized as leaders in harsh environment safety R&D, education and training, and frequent ERI partners.
